Good Life Choices: Young People's Engagement Event

You’re Invited to Wigan Safeguarding Children Board and Partners Young People’s Engagement Event ‘Good Life Choices’:

  • Tuesday 24th September 2019
  • 10am-3pm
  • Central Park, Montrose Avenue, Wigan, WN5 9XL

This is a free event for secondary school pupils in Years 8 & 9. Wigan Safeguarding Board and partners are delighted to invite a number of your pupils in Years 8 and 9 to take part in the young people’s engagement event, being held on Tuesday 24th September 2019 at Central Park in Wigan.

The event is aimed at promoting good life choices to build resilience and wellbeing. We are very fortunate to have secured Essential Safeguarding Ltd, who will perform their multi-media drama ‘Real Voices’. The performance, which lasts 30 minutes, raises awareness of Exploitation through the lives of 3 characters.

A number of interactive activities, delivered by a range of partners, will be taking place. These activities will be based around three themes: Health, Social and Education. The pupils will rotate round the venue throughout the day and will be requested to complete an interactive ‘snakes and ladders’ worksheet.

Pupils will also hear from motivational speakers and there will be a prize draw to win local rugby and football match day tickets.

We hope that a number of your pupils will be able to attend, with accompanying school staff, at what will be an exciting and interesting event.

In deciding which children to invite to this event, you might like to involve professionals such as school social workers, Start Well Link workers, School Psychologists and linked CAHMS Leads.

Last year’s event was very positive. Here are some of the comments made about the event:

“Our children had lots of positive things to say about the event”

“The day was very informative, and the children seemed to really engage in all the zones. It was introduced and presented very well. Look forward to being part of next years’ event”.

“I’ve learned how to look after myself physically and emotionally”

Please confirm your attendance as soon as possible, stating your school name, contact details, the number of students and the number of support staff you wish to bring to the event (maximum number 20 pupils per school) and any special requirements. Individual pupil names are not required. An email of confirmation and consent forms will then be sent to you for completion.

Please note: Pupils and support staff will be required to bring a packed lunch. Drinks only will be provided throughout the event.

Many thanks
