WSCB Training Needs Analysis
Introduction

It is essential that anyone supporting or working directly with children, young people and their families are equipped with the correct knowledge and skills so that they can ensure children and young people are appropriately safeguarded and that their welfare is promoted.

This Training Needs Analysis has been developed by members of the WSCB Training Sub-Group to identify training needs of the workforce, to ensure that WSCB can provide the required training to the appropriate audience.

All of the training, learning and development opportunities you find in the following questionnaire focus on supporting those working at various levels of responsibility for safeguarding children and young people. Depending on the level of interaction you have with children, young people and their families, or wider partnerships, will dictate which one of the five levels (A - E) your role has been linked to:

Basic (A) Those in regular contact with children and young people and with adults who are parents or carers.
Intermediate (B)Those who work regularly with children and young people, and with adults who are carers, and who may be asked to contribute to assessments of children in need.
Specialist (C)Those with a particular responsibility for safeguarding children, such as specialist, designated or named health and education professionals undertaking section 47 enquires or working with complex cases, including fabricated and induced illness.
Managers (D)Operational managers at all levels, within organisations employing staff to work with children and families, or with responsibility for commissioning or delivering services.
Strategy (E)Those who have a strategic and managerial responsibility for commissioning and delivering services for children and families.

A questionnaire has been devised for each of the levels, identifying the learning and development opportunities that are relevant to the role, in terms of which are:

• Essential: those which are crucial to a role
• Recommended: those which are important for the role

What will the questionnaire results be used for?

It is planned that the Training Needs Analysis can be completed by March 5th, so that Wigan Council's Learning and Development Service can undertake analysis, which will inform the commissioning of WSCB Training programmes for April 2010 - March 2011.

Details of the WSCB Training Courses commissioned as a result of this Needs Analysis will be presented on the WSCB website www.wiganlscb.com in April/May 2010.

The individual agency results will be provided to the your agency Workforce Development Lead, to enable the agency your work for to evidence to Inspection bodies that WSCB safeguarding training has been attended.
